Whilst staying at Templeberg Villa we highly recommend visiting Galle and the UNESCO listed Fort. Galle is a superb place to visit in Sri Lanka, boasting an impressive fortified city, which combines traditional Portuguese architecture and native buildings.

Coconut Plantation Tour
Explore the surrounding estate where coconuts are regularly plucked.
In March, June and October and December every year, Templeberg Villa arranges for our coconuts to be plucked. Ask us about how your stay can coincide coconut plucking and learn about the various coconut species. Have your very own King Coconut plucked fresh from one of our many trees.
Mountain Biking Tour
Our resident tourist guide Sandrew can arrange a two person cycle tour to the nearby rural village where you can watch the production of cotton using local looms and he can help you discover village life unfolding at its own pace, away from tourist areas.
Visit the village temple and the local market where fresh produce is grown and can be purchased.
Yala National Park One day Tour
Sandrew is able to drive guests to Yala National Park to join the early morning Safari to view Elephants, Leopards, Mongoose, Peacocks, alligators and other tropical animals. After the Safari let Sandrew take you on a short tour of the local tour before returning to Templeberg Villa or transferring to Ella Gap. Departure is 3am to join the morning safari which departs between 5am and 6am at sunrise.
Sandrew and Rajan’s Walking Tour
If you are interested in Sri Lankan culture Sandrew and Rajan would be delighted to show you around the local village. Templeberg is fortunate to be positioned beneath the main temple which is so special. If you are lucky enough to be there during a major ceremony it is an added bonus.Rajan is a village Elder and is able to take you to parts of the Temple others are not able to access. Price: 3,000 SLR for 1.5 hours
Guided Bike Tours
A lovely bike trip includes a ride from the villa down to nearby Jungle beach. There is a steep hill to negotiate but a dip in the sea afterwards is a great way to cool down. During the rice season, a ride inland provides stunning paddy field views. In and around Bird Island there are many examples of tropical birdlife. Tea Estate and Factory
Hanunugoda Estate, about 25 minutes away is a fascinating lowland tea plantation operation. Three of the tea plants at Templeberg Villa come from this Estate. There is a guided tour of the plantation and a highlight is seeing an example of a working boiler, made by the same company that supplied the boilers in the Titanic. Refreshments and a slice of cake are included in the tour.
In July, seven native turtle species come up on the beaches in the Southern province to lay their eggs. Year round though, it is possible to see many examples of turtles at Haberaduwa, a 25 minute ride away.
In addition to Trixie providing regular meals, she does special cooking classes showcasing breakfast cuisine, vegetarian treats and a fresh seafood fair. Some of the classes include a trip to the local vegetable market and local seafood stalls to purchase ingredients. Participants get to eat their creations. Price: 3,000 SLR included guided market tour. Ingredients are purchased and paid for separately as part of the market tour.
